Course Overview:

This interactive 2-day training class provides the theory and practice of Evolutionary Process Improvement to delivery systems through the successful application of Kanban. Using existing techniques, such as Agile, Kanban provides a practical introduction to progressively accelerate flow of work and operations enhancements: 

• Introduction of pull system to reduce and eliminate difficulties associated with push system by limiting Work in Progress (WIP) 
• Visualisation of work for transparency and identification of bottlenecks
• Techniques for defining policies to foster team collaboration and self-organisation 
• Shaping demands to balance with the team capability 
• Managing project risk with capacity allocation 
• Reducing cycle time and multi-tasking 

Participants:

Participants will learn how to design a Kanban system and initiate change with Kanban according to their unique needs. They will learn the basic concepts of work flow, pull and collaborative improvement. At the end of the course the participants will be able to demonstrate an understanding of:  

• How to identify and address bottlenecks 
• How to react and respond to changing priorities 
• How to deal with interruption to work and multi-tasking 
• How to identify and deal with different class of work 
• How to manage and manipulate work queues and cost of delay
• How to create and manage flow in the work

The content of this course covers the following topics, presented in the form of intensive, non-technical exercises organised in small groups, games, classroom teaching and discussion:  

• Management of Work in Progress and transition from push to pull 
• Visualisation of work techniques and practices for designing the card wall 
• Measuring and managing flow using control charts, flow diagrams and other techniques 
• Making policies explicit
• Risk through capacity management 
• Managing change and collaborative improvement
