The Improving class is for smaller firms who aren't interested in scaling but want to take their implementation beyond the foundation level and achieve on-going improvements. This class will also appeal to big firms who have already achieved Kanban at Scale.

Who is this workshop for?

Project or Program Managers, Business Analysts, Line and Middle Managers (both within and outside of IT), Management Coaches / Trainers and Process Improvement Coaches interested in maximizing the effectiveness of their Kanban adoptions.

Core concepts – both theoretical and practical – are explored through simulation, discussion and classroom teaching, including design techniques for single and multiple kanban systems, understanding and managing work-in-progress (WIP) at scale, introducing risk management practices into kanban systems, and implementing effective feedback loops.

Prerequisites

Inexperienced students are strongly recommended to take the 2-day Foundation-level kanban training class before the Advanced Practitioner level class. The book “Kanban: Successful Evolutionary Change for your Technology Business” by David J Anderson, a/k/a the “blue book”, is recommended reading.

What will I learn?

This workshop is ideal for practitioners seeking to sustain evolutionary change and improved service delivery at enterprise scale. By the end of the workshop participants will understand:

  • How to apply a range of design techniques to maximize the effectiveness and sustainability of kanban systems, both to keep demand and capacity in balance and to stimulate continuous improvement
  • How to manage knowledge discovery and service delivery across multiple kanban systems to drive improvement across the whole value stream
  • How the Kanban Method’s evolutionary approach to change addresses organizational imperatives such as fitness, resilience and survivability

This workshop has a strong hands-on element, with exercises focused on building and refining advanced kanban systems
